Robinson Street Underpass
The Robinson Street Underpass Project From 500 feet west of Flood Avenue to 500 feet east of Stubbeman Avenue is a $26 million street improvement project approved by the Norman voters as part of the 2005 Bond Election. Construction will begin Monday, June 14, 2010. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction of the project and the prime contractor is Manhattan Road and Bridge Construction Company of Oklahoma City.
The current schedule of major construction activities is as follows:
1) The contractor will construct the Robinson Street Detour on the north side of the existing Robinson Street. The detour should be complete and traffic moved onto the detour by mid summer, in time for the start of the new school year.
2) Simultaneous to the construction of the Robinson Street Detour is the construction of the temporary tracks for the railroad. Early this winter, train traffic will be moved onto the temporary tracks and construction of the railroad bridge can begin.
3) After traffic has moved onto the Robinson Street Detour, construction will begin on Flood Avenue and Robinson Street. Work on Flood Avenue will take all football season. First, construction will begin on Flood Street south of Robinson Street and will be complete by mid fall. After this portion is complete, the contractor will reconstruct Flood Avenue north of Robinson Street which is scheduled to finish early this winter. The work on Robinson Street will be complete early next summer.
4) Next summer, traffic will be rerouted onto the new Robinson Street and the contractor will connect Robinson Street to Stubbeman Avenue and finish the work on Flood Avenue. This will complete all major work on this project by early fall, after the beginning of the school year.
